Freaks & Creeks: a Dawson's Creek Podcast

EXT - SECLUDED SHORELINE - EVENING

It’s golden hour on a cloudless summer late-afternoon. The shoreline is small, 30-40 yards long, created by a minor tributary from a larger body of water unseen. A walkway BRIDGE is seen in the background. In the shallow water is an old BOAT.

Approaching the boat is JAMES (30s, incredibly beautiful), MAL (30s, incredibly beautiful), STELLA (30s, incredibly beautiful), and CODY (30s, incredibly beautiful). All are dressed in casual summer J. Crew attire.

The boys get on the farthest ends of the boat, while the girls get in the middle. The boys rock the boat back and forth while the girls dance. Everyone LAUGHS sincerely. James turns his head and points with his thumb toward the bridge and smiles. The rest of the group smile back.

They RACE toward the bridge, each one jumping up to grab a part of a slab that lifts them a few feet off the ground. The group swings back in forth in ecstasy.

Beat.

The crew put their arms around each other and begin walking casually toward an unknown destination. The CAMERA tracks from the front.

STELLA

It doesn’t get better than this.

JAMES

You said it!

James playfully kicks a small rock on the beach.

MAL

You ever wish we did something different?

CODY

What?

Cody pulls out hidden earbuds. Paula Cole's "I Don't Want to Wait" can be heard before Cody turns the music off.

MAL

I don't know. Maybe one of these nights we could watch a movie or TV show.

STELLA

But we love coming to this small enclosure and doing fun little dances!

JAMES

My brain is incapable of deciphering such a ridiculous proposition.

STELLA

Uh oh, looks like someone's short circuiting.

(waves hand in James' face)

Ground control to Major James.

Cody stops to bow for no one like a stage actor.

CODY

What kind of movie? Spielberg?

James' eyes widen in excitement.

MAL

Nah, maybe not a movie. We should all watch a TV show together. Something we've never seen!

CODY

I want something relatable.

STELLA

And realistic!

JAMES

Something where the intricacies of adolescence meet young adultgood. Where characterization is nuanced with rich subtext that explores the human condition on a universal level.

STELLA

Set in a nostalgic-for-millennials era! With music that sounds like it rips off Hootie & the Blowfish!

MAL

You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?

The crew jumps in the air, hands above their head in celebration
